Mindblue
has been consulting since 1998 and launched its first official venture,
Outervisions, in the spring of 1999. Outervisions
integrated the history and music of Motown across the curriculum
at Tinkham Alternative High School, in Westland, MI. Since then,
Mindblue has had the honor and privilege of working with many prominent
members and organizations associated with the music industry including:
Virgin Records, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Esther
Gordy, Ben Harper, Martha Reeves and
the Motown Historical Museum.
From 2000 to 2002 Mindblue was involved in an innovative after-school
class called the Intensive English Seminar
(IES). This group of Ann Arbor high school students studied
literature that was adapted into film. As part of the course students
received a first hand look at the business of making film with grant-funded
trips to Los Angeles, New York
and San Francisco. Each trip led to master classes from actors like
Robin Williams, Julianne Moore, director Spike Jonze, and two-time
Academy Award winning screenwriter William Goldman.
The IES group also created “Nice
Genes, Dr. Frankenstein”. A public symposium held before
an audience of over 800 classmates and faculty, "Nice Genes"
explored the ethics of genome sequencing
and its growing presense in pop culture. The discussion was lead
by an esteemed panel of internationally
renowned scientists, artists and thinkers.
In 2002 Ben Harper, Virgin Records America Inc. and Mindblue collaborated
to create an innovative study guide titled Sounds
and Visions Vol. #1. This impressive
guide explores history, reading, writing, and critical thinking
skills through the window of Mr. Harper’s brilliant songwriting.

Mindblue continues to mentor young people through the Appleseed
Project. The goal of The Appleseed
Project is to publish an anthology of interviews and essays
where prominent figures in society can share memories of a mentor
or teacher that has been a great influence in their life.
